Water Taxi Time
Departed Budapest airport this morning via Frankfurt and arrived in Venice at 2 pm.
After grabbing our bags, we made our way to the docks where the girls found us a ride on a water taxi. Carla tried to arrange one in the airport terminal but she got the run around and no satisfaction from the taxi service counter, so off we went expecting the best - and walla, we got a water taxi and headed to the islands. In fact, the cost was less than what they quoted her in the terminal and she was none were available!
After enjoying the boat ride through the canals, we arrived dock side a few hundred feet from our destination, a small boutique hotel in one of the neighborhoods. Mike and Carla are in the main portion of this unique hotel, Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo and Kelly's and Green's are in the annex, a beautifully restored building a few doors away. After settling in, we headed to a small neighborhood grocery store for a few lunch items since we were hungary. We picked up some cheese, nuts, fruit and a small loaf of yummy bread for a snack.
Dinner was at La Zucca, a restaurant on a canal not far from our hotel. Kelly's and Colacito's ate here on their first trip to Venice several years ago and loved it...and it remains a favorite.
Because La Zucca had a great desert choice for Karen, we watched her enjoy it (she did share a few bits). The rest of us stopped along the way for Gelato...um good...on our way back to the hotel.
A great way to start our Venice adventure. Stayed tuned as we spend Saturday, Sunday and Monday here in water world.
