They Cleaned Out Our Wallets
We were happy to have a leisurely late breakfast this morning. After breakfast we got together to discuss what we might want to do on our last day here in Venice...and today Karen decided that Vicki had not done enough shopping on this trip so that situation had to be rectified.
While the Colacito's went shopping and exploring on their own, Kellys and Greens hopped on the Vaporetto to visit the main shopping area near the Rialto Bridge. It was a bit crowded but we managed to find a nice glass shop full of Murano glass and we started getting the credit cards warmed up.
Next on our agenda was lunch, so we headed back to our local neighborhood where there would be peace, quiet, and no crowds. The pizzas, sidewalk dining and scenery were fabulous!
We also stepped into a small, one man wood shop across from our B&B where the girls 'cleaned' out our wallets for the final time purchasing some very special wooden items directly from the 'man' himself. Bill enjoyed talking with Vinni, the owner/artist at work in his tiny shop making the pieces he designed. Like a puzzle, each piece can be moved in or out which makes the total piece three dimensional and gives it a different look depending on how you move the pieces.
Finally, something on our to-do list, a gondola cruise through the canals of Venice. We know these are so called tourist traps, but a must since we did not have an apportunity when here several years ago. We found just the right one on a side canal near our B&B. We had a very enjoyable, quiet and tranquil ride while the gondolier sang softly.
It's time to pack, enjoy an evening walk and our last dinner in Venice as we fly to Frankfurt in the morning where we'll spend all day before flying home on Wednesday. Tonight we enjoyed dinner together, talking about our trip while sitting outside enjoying the neighborhood, fellowship, scenery, food and of course, our last Venician gelato.
