Food, Food and - Food and a Show!

Today was definately a food day. We started with our free breakfast in the concierge lounge.  All six of us had a great breakfast and then off we went to see Copenhagen.   First, we started with the famous Copenhagen Kanal cruise (their way of spelling canal). The weather was fantastic as was our tour. The girls took a taxi from the Marriott while the guys walked. Due to construction, the guys walked much further than planned due to sidewalk closures. But, after a couple route changes, the guys made it in time for the 10:30 cruise (about 10-min longer than expected).

On our tour, we saw the black diamond, the little mermaid, and many lovely danish buildings and ships, some of which are homes.

Following the tour, we found an out of the way, neighborhood take away shop that had a multitude of delicious and different salads.  Then we sat on a park bench enjoying the food, the weather and each others company. Of course when Carla's along, pastries are a must after a meal - or anytime. Within minutes she found the bakery and the pastry tour begins. Dessert was/is a requirement!

After desert we went to the Rosenburg Castle where we toured with Hans Christian Anderson, a tour guide who dresses up in period costume and takes us through the castle.  He was fun and very interesting.  We saw the crown jewels and many rooms in the castle which was a summer home for the Danish royalty.

After a full day and a short rest, it was time for dinner. Carla made a reservation at Krebse Garden before we left home.  It is #1 on Tripadvisor and we know why.  It was a small place that was decorated with art.  The 2 owners are the chefs and they were very involved with all the guests.  One in particular, Mats, was a real comedian.  Ric, Vicki, Carla, and Mike had the 5 course tasting menu which they loved.  There were many oooooos and ahssss while we all were eating.

Bill and Karen had the marinated radish salad with candied walnuts and sun dried cranberries.  Bill had the lamb (which he said was the best he ever had) and Karen had a special dish of wonderful vegetables and couscous.

They said they made a special sweet potato dish just for Karen and she was disappointed to tell him that she didn't like sweet potatoes.  They said this was different and was made with olive oil and lemon juice to counteract the sweetness.  She said she would try it and proceeded to eat it all!

Of course, no great meal would be complete without homemade dessert, like this special Italian ice cream and berries.

This was an event, a once in a lifetime experience - unforgettable food and "show". It was a really fun evening, 5-course meal, lots of wine designed to go with each course, entertaining owners and a true experience of masterfully created food. As we departed, one last picture with the owner/partner as he says good-bye. BTW, dinner began at 6:30 and we left the restaurant at 10pm!

Tomorrow starts the next adventure when we'll board the Holland America, Eurodam for the start of our Baltic cruise.  We are glad you are coming with us.  We love all of you.
