Bill Kissed Her!

We woke up to another beautiful warm morning in Venice with nothing special planned-just enjoying the city.  After our wonderful breakfast - did we mention the fresh croissants filled with apricot jam - we discussed options.

The Kellys and Colacitos decided to take the Vaporetto to the outlying island of Burano while the Greens hung around the lovely neighborhood of the hotel.  The Vaporetto trip was about 50 minutes and a lot of people were going to Burano on this beautiful Sunday summer day.

When we arrived, we enjoyed seeing brightly colored houses that were origionally painted so fishermen could spot their houses from a distance when coming home.

We broused a few shops and then had to decide where to have lunch. We were undecided between a place we ate at many years ago when we were on Burano or a family owned place that was recommended to us by a shop keeper.  We chose the family owned place and really liked it.

Then a little more shopping and the long (and crowded) Vaporetto ride back to Venice.

Karen had spotted a gelato shop that had dark chocolate sorbet near our B&B so she had to have an afternoon snack.  Vicki joined her for a cheesecake gelto.  Bill and Ric went to a nearby shop for crema gelato (cream flavored with chocolate fudge swirls in it). All flavors were excellent. BTW - this is our door and the Grand Canal and Vaporetto stop are at the end of the srreet.

Seems like we are doing a lot of eating and that was true this evening.  Carla had booked us  at a highly rated restaurant over by San Marco square, so off we went on the Vaparetto.

Once at San Marco Square, we walked along narrow alleys to a very nice restaurant tucked away in a neighborhood.  As usual Carla picked a winner.  Once seated a woman came to our table and told us that she was the 'boss'.  Bill asked her how the lasagna was and she said that it was excellent and she had made it this morning.  She said that if he didn't like it - hers is different than what we are used to - she'd not charge us for it, but if it was as good as she guaranteed, he could kiss her.  Bill ordered it and so did Carla.  We had fried zuccini flowers for an appetizer, some salad and delicious main courses.

As promised, after dinner as we were leaving, Bill made sure to kiss the boss because she was right, the lasagna was super!

The 20-min evening ride back to our stop was beautiful and one must always take a picture of the Realto Bridge.

After returning to our Vaparetto stop, we had to stop at our 2 favorite gelato stores for desert before getting back to our rooms.

Tomorrow is our last day in Venice and we will miss it.
