Heidleberg - Why Not!
Today we left Venice and started our homeward trip. We were glad that our flight was later in the morning so we could enjoy one more breakfast in our beautiful garden patio.
Our water taxi met us at our B&B this morning at 8:50 am to transport us to Marco Polo, Venezia airport. The water door opens from the lobby onto a small canal which made it very easy to enter the taxi. Then off we went saying good-bye to Venice...but not without a few last minute photos.
Once we reached the airport, we had a van waiting to take us the .2-miles to the terminal. In the past we walked it but since they are doing construction, which we found out when we arrived, we knew it was a long walk and not fun dragging bags when it's 80 degrees and humid. So yesterday Carla arranged for a water taxi/van combo which was perfect.
After reaching the Frankfurt airport at noon, we said good-bye to Mike and Carla before they boarded their flight to San Francisco while we headed to the Airport Hilton where we are staying overnight before heading home tomorrow.
Once settled in we had a burger then caught the train to Heidelberg - why not - it's only an hour from here. The train departed in the terminal attached to the Hilton. Heidelberg is beautiful city in Bavaria set against the mountains and along a river. Once we arrived, we got a bus/venicular pass and headed to the castle high upon the hill.
Rather than taking the venicular back down to old town, Karen convinced us to walk and enjoy the scenery along the way and she was right, very beautiful.
After walking about 20-minutes we reached the bridge and enjoyed two guys playing their accordions and singing songs at the bridge entrance while we enjoyed the view of the river and castle above.
With temperatures near 85 degrees, we stopped and enjoyed a gelato (several flavors of vegan gelato were available), which was very refreshing since it was so hot and humid.
We got back to Frankfurt around 8 pm, ate a salad and headed to bed. But first, time to print boarding passes...no problem, right? Well no problem for us but somehow British Airlines messed up the Greens. After spending time on the phone with American (they booked through American), Ric went back to the terminal to straighten this out with British Airlines...the Hilton is attached via a covered walkway. But no luck, so we won't know if it was solved until tomorrow and are praying they have this resolved.
Wednesday, July 1st at noon Germany time we'll depart Europe and approximately 17-hours later (we'll be changing planes in London and Phoenix) and we'll land at LAX around 8 pm. If Greens flights are resolved, they should be landing at SNA around 10 pm.
We all had a wonderful time and enjoyed seeing seven countries and numerous cities and villages since departing LAX in June 3rd. We hope you enjoyed following us via this blog and look forward to seeing soon.

The castle was stunning and the views below spectacular.
