Our Lord in the Attic

This morning we completed our Belgium experience with Bill having waffles for breakfast and then headed to the train station. At 9:52 am we boarded our high speed train to Amsterdam saying good-bye to Brussels.

Again, a georgeous 67 degree sunny day traveling along the countryside enjoying the comfort of our first class seats and a very quiet train ride. Even mature adults can take a selfie!

We arrived in Amsterdam about noon, disembarked and walked with our luggage 1/8 mile to our hotel where we met up with Mike and Carla. Next stop -  lunch at a little Christian restaurant where we had some fantastic open face sandwiches thanks to Carla's research. This is Karen's Vegan sandwich which was tasty. Mike, Bill and Carla loved their sandwiches as well.

After lunch, off we went walking along the canal stopping for a very interesting ice cream desert...almost like whipped cream. Of course Bill couldn't allow Carla to eat alone!

After reviewing our afternoon options, we decided to find and tour Our Lord in the Attic. This is a group of three houses next to each other that were purchased in the 1600s by a Catholic businessman.  This was during a time when the Catholic religion was banned. Therefore, this business man built a hidden church in the three houses.  The santuary was on the third floor and could hold 150 people.  And the stairs were very step requiring hand rail and rope.

It was a very interesting tour that clued us into the history of Amsterdam. Before going
in the santuary, we put on booties to help protect the floors.

As you can see, the sanctuary is beautiful. When built in the 17th century, they removed sections of the 4th and 5th floors re-enforcing the structure with steel braces.

After the walk about and tour, we went back to our hotel and checked in and got organized before heading out to dinner at Max of Amsterdam, an Indonestian restaurant. Dinner was great although slightly spicey.

Another adventure filled day and enjoyed meeting up and spending the afternoon with Mike and Carla.
