Cologne in Cologne - Fri, June 12

As we said good-bye to the windmills, we spent the rest of the day and night sailing.

This morning (Friday) we arrived in Cologne, Germany. So, how's the weather in Cologne you ask?  Today it was another nice, but  hot day followed by a few showers and thunder in the late afternoon.

After breakfast we started out on our tour with our guide, Marcus.  He was a funny guy who took us around the area and filled us in on the culture and lives of Cologne's people.

When we were standing outside the city hall near a Church (no picture), we saw several couples going in to get married.  One groom carried his bride because she was having a hard time walking on the cobblestones with her stiletto heels.  It was a romantic moment and we all clapped.

We once again enjoyed seeing Cologne's magnificant cathedral (we were here in 2013).
When the tour ended at noon, we went inside which was good and bad.  Bad because there is a prayer service at noon, we had to stay at the back which meant we couldn't see the entire church, but the good news was we got to hear the organ play which was a real treat.

After Carla and Karen got some samples of the real Cologne cologne, which has been here for hundreds of years, we made our way back to the ship for lunch.  After lunch we wondered down the street to visit the chocolate museum.  It was interesting to see some of the automated machinery spitting out chocolate and trying a couple samples.  They also had a shop filled with a zillion kinds of chocolate in every flavor and form.  Even a chocolate bar with marajuana in it!  So much that it was overwhelming and Karen didn't buy anything.

Another fun and educational day here in Germany. So, good night from Cologne.

  1. Amazing church structure. Equally amazing it wasn't destroyed in WWII.
