Where's Karen?
Today is June 4 but our adventure began on June 2. We were blessed that April was able to take us to the airport on her way to work, dropping us off at SNA at 8am. Our flight made 2 stops in route to Italy, DFW and PHL. We choose this route because it saved us going to LAX on a Monday morning. We arrived at the Milan airport at 11am Tuesday and checked into the Sheraton at the airport. Our flights were all very smooth and uneventful for which we were very grateful.
After settling in, we walked around the hotel inside and outside and checked where we'd be picking up our rental car this morning. The weather was perfect at 77 degrees and light wind. After a couple hours it was time for a 2-hr jet lag nap then dinner at the hotel and some movie watching before turning in for the night. We slept very well and were ready for our new day after a great free breakfast at the hotel.
We picked up our rental car and after a little struggle to get out of the parking garage we were on our way with guidance from our GPS. Bill did not make any wrong turns and we got to Como on Lake Como easily and we quickly found our hotel, the Albergo Terminus which overlooks the lake.
We were in the mood for a sandwich for lunch so we asked the front desk lady where to go to get a good sandwich and she directed us to a tiny authentic grocery store which made sandwiches. We found it after a short walk and asked for two sandwiches. In the authentic Italian style the sandwiches were made with Italian bread, freshly sliced prosciutto, and parma cheese - no vegetables or dressing. We enjoyed the real Italian lunch on the steps of the Duomo.
Now that's an Italian sandwich!
Next we walked to the funicular and had a ride up the mountain for a view of the lake and surrounding towns. The view could have been better since it was cloudy and hazy but it was great to see several charming towns on the hills surrounding the lake.
Here is an example of the ancient architecture.
Time for an Italian dinner at La Pasta.

You’re off to a fabulous start…amazing scenery, good food and yummy gelato…what could be better? Looking forward to your daily posts!
