What was she thinking?
We are enjoying our 5-Star Marriott Renaissance Hotel here in Paris - and at no cost thanks to all the points Bill accrued when he was working. As well, a full breakfast is included. And since it was Bill's birthday, mgmt left us a bottle of wine, cookies and almonds in our room. We also received a complimentary glass of champagne for two in the lobby sitting room, which we are saving for another day.
After a good nights sleep, off we went to meet our Segway Tour guide. Segway tours are a great way to see several areas w/o walking. After a couple minutes of familiarization (we've ridden in the past), off we went on our 1 1/2-hr tour.
We stopped at several places along the way where our guide explained some of the history. We also stopped at several famous places like the Louvre (we did not go in), bridges where lovers still attach a padlock to the bridge to indicate they are locked in love forever, and of course, the Eiffel Tower. Later this week, we will be touring the tower.
After walking several blocks, we found a brasserie where we had lunch. The food was great and it gave us the needed R&R before walking to the Arc de Triomphe.
We were glad we bought skip-the-line tickets as the lines for tickets were quite long. Bill was told we could take the elevator or stairs. For unknown reasons, Karen chose the stairs. Did she not realize how far we had to go to reach the top, 164-ft up? What was she thinking?
After several short stairway breaks, we reached the top - 264 steps later! Now that's alot of steps.
We decided to walk to our hotel which turned out to be a 45-min walk. By the time we got back, our pigs were screaming for rest. We enjoyed the wine and almonds mgmt left us last night.
When in Paris, do as the Parisians do - eat at a sidewalk cafe, and we did for dinner. The sun was shining and the weather was a perfect 70 degrees with a light breeze.
After dinner we walked around the Louvre enjoying the beautiful architecture and weather.
Our elevator is unique.

When you stand in the middle of this arch, which is opposite the Louvre, it lines up with the obelisk and center of the Arc de Triomphe.
Today was a beautiful 72-degree day.
