France Wins!!!
Good morning. Today is our 52nd anniversary. Who would have known that 52 years ago we would be spending our anniversary in Colmar, France. Thanks and love to all our family and friends who have made our lives so wonderful and full of love.
Some interesting facts about our boutique hotel, the Maison des Tètes, built in 1609. Known as 'The House of Heads', it turns out it is one of the highlights of Colmar, a splendid Renaissance building featuring an ornate facade of little personages and small busts, an example of Alsatian architecture. It owes its name to the unusual 105 grotesque masks.
We enjoyed a nice breakfast in our hotel this morning before setting out. We discovered that since it was Sunday, most everything was closed.
We wondered around town and came across the toy museum so we decided to relive our childhood. Surprisimgly it was open.
Back on our walk things in town livened up as resturants and some stores opened up. We spent a little time viewing a local Catholic church and then went around to the beautiful Le Petite Venise.
For the 1st time in nearly 3-weeks, the sky started to get grey and we heard the sound of thunder. The temperature though remained at 80 degrees.
We stopped at a small stall along our way and got some freshly baked pretzels. So fresh that they were a little too hot.
In an effort to make our pretzel lunch more nutritious, we went into the covered market and Bill got some cheese, and Karen got an apple.
This afternoon things are beginning to get a little crazy because the World Cup final game is tonight and France is playing Croatia. Just imagine if you were vacationing in New Orleans on Super Bowl Sunday and the Saints were playing! That is what it is like here in France!
I could live here.

Not so bad, are they?

The French soccer fans are partying at this Sports Cafe 3-hrs before the game.

Once we got back to our hotel, it began to sprinkle. It was a very nice, calm and light rain. Once the World Cup began, we headed back out for dinner and to witness the excitement around Colmar.
Half time we had dinner at another sidewalk cafe. Everywhere TV's were tuned to the World Cup.
As the game progressed while we ate, the crowds were growing. Our cafe did not have a TV but there were several close by. In fact, a kid ran to our cafe to let everyone know the score - very cool.
No doubt France Won! Explosions all around us. Firecrackers, sparklers, flags, horns - the Super Bowl on steroids.
Since it's our 52nd anniversary, it was nice everyone was cheering us, or was that for winning the World Cup?
