Happy 4th of July

Bill was up early to play the back 9-holes at Dromoland Castle Hotel & Country Club this morning. He choose the back 9 because a couple we met, who had played 18 on Tuesday, said it was very nice along the lake. Bill said it was beautiful with temps of 60 at 7am (Karen slept in).

Beautiful green golf course and a selfie.

We headed to the beautiful breakfast dining room for yet another wonderful Irish breakfast.

Breakfast is served - Dromoland Castle Hotel.

The perfect vegan breakfast prepared for Karen.

After breakfast Bill had a heart to heart talk with the general manager about the lack of air conditioning in our room.  It ranged around 82 to 86 degrees.  They brought in a portable AC unit but it wasn't much help.  After a talk about how long ago we booked and how much we paid, they offered us 20% off but Bill suggested he did not feel that was fair. A few minutes later they offered 50% off our bill which we felt was fair.

So off we went to our next castle destination - Ballynahinch Castle further north on Hwy 1 (oops, we mean the Wild Atlantic Way).  After a little confusion and lack of communication, we found ourselves in the center of Galway.  With the help from our gps and an electronic map we found ourselves back on the Wild Atlantic Way.

It was another beautiful day and the further north we went, the more rocks and peat we saw, as well as more Gaelic on the road signs.  We stopped at a small cafe for lunch and then drove the short distance to the castle.

Ballynahinch Castle Hotel & Estate.

We have a lovely view from our room through floor to ceiling windows 10 ft wide. And the river is only 40 ft from our window.

Ballynahinch sits on 700 acres within a forest. The estate grounds are very green and wild, with a river running just past our room.

After settling in, we took a walk along the river and around part of the lake.

Where you going Karen?

On our way back, we came across some pigs who really wanted us to feed them, so we picked some fresh grass and they couldn't get enough.

Hey, this might be Bill's breakfast!

Tonight we ate here in the Pub.

The food and atmosphere was great and we were happy we skipped the 5-course meal in the dining room - and no ham! But, we did have vegan chocolate moose, and yes, it was yummy.

When we returned to our room, Bill got an email from Eurorail stating that there are expected disruptions in the train system in France.  We had planned to use the trains to get around and had already purchased our tickets, so please pray for us that our trains will be running. If not, we'll probably rent a car and drive - on the other side of the road this time, just like we do in the USA!

We still can't believe the view from our room. So beautiful and serene and peaceful.  Wish you could be here to enjoy the adventure. And to think, we can enjoy it till sundown at 10pm.

Picture taken out our window at 10 pm.

Happy 4th of July to all.
