Car, airplane, taxi, train, bus and the tram - Oh My!

WHAT A DAY!!! Travel days can be a challenge and we had our share today.  Saturday, July 7.  We didn't take a lot of pictures and no wifi to post our blog.

We started off getting up early to make sure we had enough time to gas up the car, get to the airport, turn in the rental car and get through security.  It went pretty well except when we went to turn in the rental car, they told us we were in the wrong spot and had to go to the parking structure for terminal one.  We went over there and there was no sign of a rental car return.  We went to another parking structure and just before going in we saw a sign about the size of a postage stamp saying 'car return'.  We finally found the right place and then got through security with time to spare for breakfast before our flight.

Once we boarded the plane, we were told there was some mechanical issues that the engineers were working on and we would have to wait a little while.  Forty - minutes later we departed behind schedule and when we landed in Paris, we couldn't get to the gate because the ground crew had a bunch of equipment on the ground that had to be moved.  I wonder if the ground crew knew that every minute they take moving things was a minute less we had to catch our train from Paris to Rennes.  Once we could get off the plane we had to endure the slow process of French immigration.  They also don't seem ro care about us making our train.

Soon we were able to get a taxi to the train station.  We were not sure we would make the train but our driver did his best to get us there, but Paris traffic made it seem like we would never get there.  All along the ride Bill was thinking about Plan B if we miss the train.  He thought we would rent a car and drive to Mont Saint Michel. After Karen saw the narrow Paris roads, construction zones, and wild French drivers, she told Bill that he would not be driving in Paris!

We finally drove up to the station and rushed in.  Karen spoted some people in yellow vests who looked like they were supposed to help people, so she went up to them and asked them if they spoke English and an elderly man said he did a little.  He took us to the electronic ticket kiosk and soon we were able to print our tickets.  Then he showed us where the train was and all three of us were running to catch the train.  We found it (thanks to the wonderful French man) and jumped on.  We then enjoyed a relaxing train ride to Rennes.  After that we had to find the bus that would take us to Mont-Saint-Michel.

Finally we made it and are now enjoying our cute little room with a balcony overlooking the town and bay. It was an adventurous day, but we are now ready to enjoy two nights at Mont-Saint-Michel.

Mont-Saint-Michel from tram stop (better and more pictures tomorrow).

When laying in bed, windows in front of us looking across patio to the sea.

Views from our private patio.

Our room was a former fisherman's cottage. We are situated in the middle of the village and you have to climb many stairs (under statement) up the mont, past a church and cemetery before reaching our door of a small walkway - but worth it. We counted over 100 steps, plus 2 steps down into our room and two steps between the bedroom and bathroom. We are getting our steps in!

More pictures Sunday or Monday.
