The Luck of the Irish
Our Irish adventures continued today as we headed north along the Wild Atlantic Way. To insure we got to our next Castle in a timely manner, we got on the road at 9:45am hoping to make the 10:30 ferry. But first, a picture out our window and breakfast.
Our first stop planned was Kilkee Bay. But first, we had to catch the ferry across the Mouth of the Shannon inlet. We managed to arrive at 10:28am and we were nearly the last vehicle to board. The ferry crosses every hour on the half hour. The ferry saved us several hours of driving and we were so blessed to make it in time. If not, we would have been waiting around an extra hour. Some might jokingly say this was the luck of the Irish!
Kilkee is a beach town and boy is there a large beach with lots of cars and people sun bathing and shopping. The Irish were loving this unusual 85 degree day.
We diverted from our route so we could see Kilkee Cliffs, and boy was it was worth it although it was further than we thought. Just georgeous and only a few tourists and no busses.
Another diversion we were looking for was Trump International Golf Course. When on the ferry our neighbor in a large truck mentioned the course so we thought, why not? The challenge was road signage, as it was not very well marked. After 30-min of "are we going the right way", we gave in and turned around and continued to our next place of interest.
Back on the main road again, we wanted to find a place for lunch out of town. You guessed it, now that we're not looking for Trump International all the sudden, out in the middle of nowhere, there was the sign/entrance which we almost missed. Good thing no one was in back of us or coming the other way as Bill had to nearly skid to stop to make the left turn.
We didn't have time for Bill to hit the links, but time for lunch and a tour of the club.
After lunch Karen bought Bill a golf shirt and logo ball for his birthday which is on the 9th.
Our next stop was the famous Cliffs of Moher. Like Kilkee, but much larger (and lots of busses and tourists) it was another must see in Ireland.
Finally at 4:30pm we arrived at Dromoland Castle Hotel, cicra 1543. We are staying here tonight and will depart tomorrow at noon.
Beautiful grounds, a lake, walled garden, lilly pond, a horse drawn carriage, a golf course and more.
A beautiful morning looking onto the garden grounds from our room.
Breakfast in the Ballyseede Castle Hotel before heading out.

The auto/truck ferry carried several large trucks, motor homes and lots of cars.
