The Last Lock

Arrived in Slovakia this morning around 6 am. Slovakia boarders Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and the Ukraine and is slightly smaller than Massachusetts. In 1993, the Slovaks and the Czechs agreed to separate peacefully in what is called the Velvet Divorce. Prior to this separation, we knew this country as Czechoslovakia.

We left the ship at 8:30 am on a city walking tour of old town, a short and easy walk from the dock. Meanwhile, Ric took the included bus tour to the Prematial Palace high above the city before meeting us in town while Vicki enjoyed sleeping in and enjoying the ship. Along our way we saw a Monday morning traffic jam caused by an automobile accident on the tracks which backed up the trolley cars.

Throughout the old town we saw many unique trams, narrow cobblestone streets - like we've not seen any of these - unique buildings, the U.S. Embassy and statues like Napoleon.

Kiss this workers hat and turn into a Princess, touch his nose and become a frog!

Of course we always find a church we must check out, and in this one you could look into the crypt. Because of land issues, the church was built over a cementary.

After lunch we passed through the last lock at 2 pm...that's 64 locks in total...and this lock was a 60-ft drop.

No cruise is complete without a visit to the bridge. With this ship only being one year old, it has all the latest electronic gadgets.

Bratislava, the capital was only a 1/2 day stop before heading to Budapest, Hungary where we docked at 10 pm.

Now, the GRAND FINALE...after travelling 1800-miles from Amsterdam on the Rhein, Main Danube and a few hand made canals, we arrived Budapest, a truly unbelievable light show!

And the view from our room was pretty cool as well.
