Moorea to Marina

Image
The Hilton Moorea Resort & Spa overwater bungalows. As you can see, our unit was nearly at the furthest point from shore. What a spectacular location. We loved it and hated to leave. During the night we woke to a couple intense rain/wind storms. As normal, when they come, they only last a few minutes. Then, clear skies until the next outburst. By 6am, sun is out and few clouds.   View from our unit at water level - so clear - as we went for a morning swim.                          Careful Bill, don't drop the camera !                                The front door of our bungalow as we prepare to say good-bye.     Here comes the catamaran that will take us back to Tahiti, a short choppy 30-min ride that left Karen a little nauseous.      We boarded the Oceania Marina at 1pm, in time for a wonderful lunch.     Dinner tonight was very tasty in one of the specialty restaurants - The Polo Grill.   Our first stop of the cruise tomorro

Morning Dip & Sip

Nothing like a morning dip in the warm lagoon after waking up first thing this morning. Water is so clear and a wonderful temperature.  After her swim, Karen took a bath in our claw foot tub with a glass of champagne. Yesterday we posted the view from the bed looking out on the deck and water. Below is the view out the other window. Next stop - breakfast here at the Hilton. The views and breeze are fantastic although the lighting did not work well so you can't make out the lagoon thru the window - but it is beautiful. Today we rented a nice little 2-passenger mini-Jeep powered by a VW motor. We took the picture right before we removed the canvas top and continued our drive around the entire island of Moorea - a whopping 45 miles! BTW - Moorea is a very tropical surrounded by rain forests. Hiking in the rain forest on a nice sunny day. Mountain views and the lagoons below with high clouds in the distance.   Beautiful Christian Chu

A Warm, Wet, Wonderful Welcome

A first for the Kelly's: our first International Flight in economy! Good news - the flight was not full so we were able to spread out. After an 8 1/2-hr overnight (red-eye) flight on Air Tahiti Nui from LAX, we saw sunrise out the window as we approached Tahiti for our 14-day adventure. At 9:15 am we stepped off the plane and we were greeted with Lei's and some Tahitian music.   Our tour driver was waiting for us as we stepped out of customs. In fact, he had to move the van closer to the terminal as it began raining cats and porpoise's! Man did it come down and strong winds. We boarded the van and within less than a mile, the rain stopped and sun came out. Welcome to Tahiti. Our driver took us from the a/p to the port where we boarded a large catamaran "shuttle" which took us to the Island of Moorea. We are staying here 2-nights in a gorgeous, panoramic overwater bungalow, at the Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort & Spa.
