Anne's Place

This morning we had breakfast at Vinnies, a small all natural little cafe. Recommended by Trip Advisor, we were not disapponted.  Everything was natural and hand made to include fresh squeezed orange juice. Here is Bill's pouched eggs and Karen's healthy breakfast.

After breakfast we walked around before our first tour - Anne Frank's secret annex where she and 7 other people hid out for almost 2 years before being captured.  It was a good thing we got tickets on-line because the line for tickets and tour was over two hours long. We were not allowed to take pictures inside so this is the only picture we have.

When we exited The Anne Frank house, we had fun watching and singing along with a canal legend, shown here in his home made boat and musical instruments. He played along with the church bells. When the bells stopped, he had everyone look up at the steeple and on cue, shout out 'ahoy'. After two times, the bell tower master stepped out and waved a flag from atop the steeple.  This mimstrel Is well known in the Amsterdam canals and all the boats give him the right of way as he goes about entertaining people along the canals.

After this entertainment interlude,  we went for Frits (French fries) at a local stand behind the Protestant Church.

After our lunch snack, we met up with Peter our tour guide. For the next 3-hrs he led us on a walking, WW II tour. It seems the Dutch Jews didn't offer a lot of resistence to going to the camps because at first they didn't know about all the Jews being killed. He explaines some of the places Jews lived with historic photos taken from the same spot. On this corner he shows us where, in 1945, the SS recruitment office was located.

At the end of our tour before heading back to meet up with Ric and Vicki who arrived late this afternoon, Peter insisted on taking our picture.  As you can see it is still cold today.

We found a very tired Ric and Vicki at the hotel and then all six of us enjoyed a nice dinner before putting the Greens to bed to sleep off their jet lag.  Tomorrow afternoon we board out Viking River Cruise ship and expect it to be a little warmer.
