Christmas Tree Farm Inn & Spa

Stunningly spectacular! Wow!  Vivid colors!  God's paintbrush is working overtime!  This is all we were saying and thinking today as we drove miles and miles through Maine and New Hampshire's tree lined highways, but back to the beginning. We woke up in our lovely room after a good nights sleep.  We enjoyed a breakfast of fruit, granola, and toast (Karen) and French toast, strawberries, and bacon (Bill) and sadly departed from the beautiful town of Castine, Maine. On our way out of Castine, we stopped by the Dice's Head Lighthouse, just a short distance from the Inn. Just so you know - you cannot capture the true vivid colors we are seeing in these trees, so here are some pictures along our journey to today's destination - Jackson, New Hampshire. We checked into the Christmas Farm Inn and Spa (their address is Blitzen Way) and settled into our suite in the Carriage House (on Dancer Way). We have a nice living room with fireplace, T...

The staff at The Great George took good care of Karen this morning by making her buckwheat pancakes topped with blueberry compote. Very considerate, while Bill had a bagel, quiche and fruit (oh yea, he ate some of Karen's and it was yummy!) After breakfast, we visited St. Dunstan's Basilica across the street After our visit, it was time to hit the road. We once again crossed the Confederation Bridge which joins the eastern Canadian provinces of Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick, making travel throughout the Maritimes easy and convenient. The curved, 12.9 kilometre (8 mile) long bridge is the longest in the world crossing ice-covered water, and more than a decade after its construction, it endures as one of Canada’s top engineering achievements of the 20th century. Although it was free from NB, the trip back across this magnificent bridge cost $46 Canadian ($39 US). Internet picture followed by ours Our drive to Castine, Maine took us 7-hrs with a sto...

Looking out our window this morning at the beautiful St. Dunstan's Basilica across the street, we could see it was going to be a beautiful day. The sign over its doorway reminded us of how grateful we were receiving God's Mercy yesterday in our time of need. We're loving The Great George, Charlottetown's Historic Boutique Hotel. Just outside the front door stands these figures symbolizing the meetings held here as they developed the Confederation, the country of Canada, which makes this hotel a very historic and important part of their country and heritage.. After enjoying breakfast, we set off exploring PEI (Prince Edward Island). As we drove, a small shop caught Karen's eye. While Karen shopped, Bill hung around their beautiful gardens in the back. PEI is well known for its beaches, and of course we stopped to admire several during our trek. Looking at the lovely beaches we could look 'across the pond', but it was a little too far to see the...

Wow!  What a day!  It started out normal enough with a delicious breakfast at our B&B.  We wanted to leave by 8:30 to get to the Hopewell Rocks in time to 'walk on the ocean floor' during low tide as mentioned in yesterdays blog. Before I start, those of you who have read Carla's blog know that her GPS is named Amelia after Amelia Earhart who never did find her way home.  Ours is named Dudley after Dudley Doright, the Royal Canadian Mountie who always got his man. So, when we drove out of the driveway of the B&B, Dudley told us to go left when we knew the way to go was right, but we thought we would be 'adventurous' and see if going left was a shortcut as he promised.  Soon afterwards, we found ourselves on a nice easy wide dirt road.  No problem. We were fine as we thought this would be a shortcut and wouldn't be very long.  Along the way, time for a beauty shot (notice, the road looks ok for dirt at this point). Not long ...
