Great George 2.0

Looking out our window this morning at the beautiful St. Dunstan's Basilica across the street, we could see it was going to be a beautiful day. The sign over its doorway reminded us of how grateful we were receiving God's Mercy yesterday in our time of need.

We're loving The Great George, Charlottetown's Historic Boutique Hotel. Just outside the front door stands these figures symbolizing the meetings held here as they developed the Confederation, the country of Canada, which makes this hotel a very historic and important part of their country and heritage..

After enjoying breakfast, we set off exploring PEI (Prince Edward Island). As we drove, a small shop caught Karen's eye. While Karen shopped, Bill hung around their beautiful gardens in the back.

PEI is well known for its beaches, and of course we stopped to admire several during our trek. Looking at the lovely beaches we could look 'across the pond', but it was a little too far to see the UK.

Green, lush rolling hills dot the landscape and there are lots of small country roads criss-crossing the island to explore.

The most beautiful roads to explore are, oh no, dirt roads! Nothing can be as bad as yesterday, so we hid Dudley and followed a printed map (do your grandkids know we used to use printed maps?).  The scenic heritage roads are natural red-clay, so after yesterdays fiasco, they were like paved roads to us! We drove along this road for several miles through a tunnel of trees beginning to change color.  It was the most beautiful dirt roads we ever drove on.

After getting back on the paved road, we woke Dudley and put him back to work. Soon we found ourselves in a very small fishing village, Victoria. We finally forgave Dudley and he's back at work doing a great job and thankfully found us a place for lunch - good going Dudley! Although this small pier cafe was very rustic, Bill's burger and onion rings and Karen's veggie burger and fries were terrific (of course her eyes are closed - we forgot to check, oh well).

After a late lunch it was time to explore historic downtown Charlottetown and stop for ice cream at the Cow Creamery. We dropped our gear at the hotel and walked a short distance to the boardwalk and found the Cow Creamery. Karen had sorbet while Bill went for Carla's favorite when they visited here a few years ago, Wowie Cowie.

Before heading back to our hotel, a stop at Anne of Green Gables chocolate shop was a must. We'd show you what we bought, but we ate it after dinner.

Dinner tonight was at the Brickhouse in an old historic building. If you select "Green" when you check-into The George, you get a $10 off/day/room coupon daily for food at several local restaurants, this being one of them. "Green" allows The Great George to eliminate maid service for your room, saving washing towels, etc. If you need more towels, there is a dresser in the hallway - just help yourself. What a great idea to help save the environment. Therefore, we saved $10 on tonights yummy dinner..

The chef and his team creating our meals. Nice job guys.
