St. Martins Country Inn 2.0

You might be wondering why 2.0 title and what's so unique about the Bay of Fundy? First of all, our blog titles are based on where we're staying and 2.0 is the second night at the same place. Now let's talk about the Bay of Fundy.

The highest tides in the world take place in the Bay of Fundy, reaching 53-ft, the height of a 5-story building.  The corresponding low tides expose the sea floor and sea caves. This morning we walked the sea floor here in St. Martins, although todays high tide there was only 10-20 ft. You can see from the 1st photo below, Karen standing next to sea weed growing on what looks like an island (growing on top of rock we climbed down) and in the 2nd photo, no sea weed to be seen. Where she would be in the 2nd photo is below the tip of land to the far right.

Next, we drove further north to Moncton to witness tidal bores, when the incoming tides reverses the flow of the river. Below is a photo of some old pilings at low tide and the same photo after the tide came taken from the same spot one hour later.

When the tide came in, it was a wall about 2-ft high. Below you can see a surfer taking advantage in freezing water and 55 degree outside temperature.

Our next trek was to Hopewell Rocks at high tide (shown below). High tide was at 40-ft above the sea floor today. Checkout our photo tomorrow to see the difference as we plan to walk on the sea floor at low tide.

Along our drive we were surrounded by beautiful fall colors, dark green trees, light green, light yellow, dark yellow, shades of orange and red dotting the countryside. In future blogs we'll have some photos for your viewing pleasure.

Once back at the Inn, it was time for dinner, but we couldn't walk up the street without posting a photo looking out our bedroom window - georgeous!

For dinner we went to a tiny restaurant attached to a local B&B, "Fiories".  His specialty is TexMex. Bill had the combo of tacos, beans, rice and chili relano and said it was as good or even better than any Mexican restaurant in CA. Karen had a pasta dish that was also outstanding - a "hole-in-the-wall" place in this tiny community - unbelievable!
