Last Stop
This morning on our way to breakfast (our 'house', approx. 30-ft from the main house) Ric asked the grounds keeper "how do you water the lawn"? He said we don't. We hope it will rain tonight and while eating, his wish came true. Welcome to England.
Staying at this bed and breakfast farmhouse has allowed us the chance to interact with the Inn Keeper and other guests. It was great to hear about their lives and life here in England.
On our way to Castle Combe where we will spend two nights, we visited Oxford. So if anyone asks, we can say we went to Oxford! The old buildings and campus are beautiful, alhough we only saw a small amount. Oxford is definitely a University town - lots of universities, students and tourists.
Rather than eating lunch in town (very crowded) we opted to drive out of town and hope for the best. Sure enough our english driver (Bill) spotted a place along the 2-lane road and pulled in. Wow, another treasure of a find. We ate at 'The Greyhound' and the food was great. Ric had been craving a chicken ceasar salad for the last few days and he finally got one here.
The village of Castle Combe dates back to the 15th-century and is rated the number one place to see in the Cotswells. There were several movies shot here to include some scenes in Downton Abby. But more about Castle Combe tomorrow when the rain hopefully ends - we hope and pray.
While here 2-nights, we are staying at 5-star B&B, 'The Manor House', built in the 17th-century. Over 25-yrs ago, Karen and Bill stayed here with Karen's parents. Tomorrow we plan to post more pictures once the rain stops.
But for now, here is a picture of the Kelly's room. The oak beams in our room date back to the early 16th-century.
Rather than eat here tonight (it's quit expensive) we chose to eat at the Salutation Inn, a few miles away. No pictures, but the food was excellant. We have not been disappointed by any of the pubs we have eaten in. The menus have really improved alot over the years.

Like Venice, Oxford has its own 'Bridge of Sighs'

A rainy day view out our window
