The Girl with the Three Legged Dog
We arrived Amsterdam yesterday (Sat) at 4:20 pm. We departed the Chateau at 8 am, drove 1-hr to the train station in Rennes and dropped off the car. From Rennes it was a 2-hr train ride to Paris, then a 35-min taxi ride to a different station (good thing it was around noon on Sat as we only had 1-hr between trains). Once on our way, it was another 4 1/2-hr train to Amsterdam. We must say, taking trains in Europe is great.
While on board the train playing games on the tablet, an 8-yr old French girl was watching Bill do puzzles. After the 2nd puzzle, Bill handed the tablet to Karen and suggested she share it with her - although the young girl could not speak English. She was traveling with her pa-pa and her 3 legged dog. She was very friendly and a cutie and we enjoyed sharing with her. The girl with the 3 legged dog loved sitting with us and doing puzzles on the tablet. She was very polite and thanked us when we reached the station as did her pa-pa.
Once we arrived Amsterdam, it took us 3 phone calls to the River Queen, our boutique cruise ship, to get walking directions (some language mis-understanding). Our 5 min walk ended up taking 20-ugh.
The River Queen has Wi-Fi, but if 22 people are on it, number 23 has to wait until someone gets off. So, we'll see how this works and hope to keep up today every day or two. Because it is weak, pictures may be a challenge which means the blog may be without pictures.
The River Queen is a beautiful boat with only 110 passengers. As a boutique cruise, many here said once you do this, you'll want to do more as they wait on you hand and foot. The decoration is unlike any others we've been on, and so far the food is excellent. This morning (Sun) we toured the canals which was wonderful and the weather is perfect. After the canal tour, we toured the Van Gogh museum, another Karen bucket list item.
We are now underway (2 pm), watching as we write this blog. It is very green everywhere, cows and sheep in the fields and locals riding bikes along the causeways.
Bill does have a company hot-spot with him but it is blocked. He has requested Boeing to approve for international, and if approved may be able to send photos. For now, no photos can be inserted.
