Anyone for some Swiss Chocolate?
Friday in Lucerne began cloudy and rainy but that didn't stop us. After a nice breakfast at the hotel we started driving along the north side of the lake and towards the towns of Weggis and Vitznau.
The road was easy and Gert helped us navigate the round abouts. The rain had stopped and we enjoyed some beautiful scenery. Mountains come up from the lake and they are totally green - very lush and beautiful. After turning around to head back, we saw some lovely homes on the mountain and we decided to try and find a good spot to get a picture, so we turned up a side street and started climbing up the mountain. Before we knew it we were climbing higher and higher on a very narrow road with not much guard railing on the down side of the road. We wanted to turn around but we weren't sure it was a two way road, and it was no wider than a car plus a few feet. We finally found a spot and decided to turn around and head back down. It was much easier going down than going up, but it was quite a white knuckle ride for Karen.
Once we got down to the main road we found a spot to get a great picture! Ugh! Hope you enjoy the picture and just imagine us up there high as the farthest building. Some of the houses were so high up they looked like only a mountain goat could get up there.
We stopped for lunch in Weggis and then Karen added to her collection of paper napkins by finding some from Switzerland. Once back at the hotel we easily found a prime parking spot. Later we took a walk across the bridge and enjoyed a beautiful church before walking up to the Dying Lion Monument. This monument is carved out of natural rock to honor the Swiss heros who died at the Tuileries in Paris in 1792. It is a beautiful monument and a nice way to honor those who gave their lives.
Our next mission was to find a special chocolate shop. We couldn't go home with out Swiss chocolate! There are plenty of chocolate shops but we were looking for a special one. Looks like we found it! It was so nice to be strolling along the cobble stone roads of Lucerne nibbling on dark Swiss chocolate with almonds.
After some time back in our room, Bill worked at putting some pictures in past blogs that didn't get pictures attached, but we still have more to update. After an hour, we decided to find a place to have dinner. We walked back across the bridge and found a nice place overlooking the lake and bridge. Dinner was a unique experience for Bill because when his sausages were served, the waiter brought him some mustard - in a tube like toothpaste. So Bill was squeezing mustard onto his plate just like he does toothpaste!
Maybe Bill will get some more pictures added to previous blogs tomorrow morning, so check again and so long for now.
