Unbelievably Gorgeous Turquoise Jade-Green Water
To provide a overview picture of an atoll, we've picked this off the internet as this was today's stop.
Rangiroa atoll, a string of coral encircling a luminous turquoise and jade-green lagoon, is one of the world's greatest dive destinations. In fact, Rangiroa is the biggest atoll in French Polynesia (47 miles long and 15 miles wide). It's interesting to note, the land itself is only 300 yards wide around the lagoon.
Rangiroa is a real natural aquarium, classified by Capt. Cousteau as one of the first most beautiful and elaborated site in the world.
Our tour this morning was on a glass bottom boat into the 'Aquarium' where we saw schools of fish, large sharks, moray ells and more. For sure, we felt like we were inside an aquarium. Pictures do not tell the story, but believe us, there was an abundance of fish and sharks. Although we were unable to get good pictures of all the beautiful fish, the water is so clear, you can see the bottom over 20-ft deep. We did take these.
While on board our little glass bottom boat, the captain weaved a carrying bag while we watched her and the underwater life. They use these type bags to carry the fish they catch. A friend of hers made the hat she is wearing. She also made a bandana.
Back to the ship for lunch, then we changed into our bathing suits and headed back to the shore for a dip. Outside temperature today was 88 and the water, a refreshing 85 degrees.
Shortly after taking the picture below, a shark went right by Bill and four others from our ship who were enjoying paradise with us.

Our shipped sailed into the lagoon through an opening in the atoll. From here we transfer to tenders when we want to reach shore. You can see the sea on the other side of the trees in the photo above.

As a gift, she presented Karen with the bandana she weaved and gave another lady the bag.

Karen missed the shark but took a picture of a floating hibiscus flower.
As we headed back into the sea this evening, notice the dark indigo blue water.
Stayed turned as we will be in Bora Bora tomorrow and Wednesday. As you may have noticed, we usually post the blog around 9pm South Pacific time which is 11pm Calif. time.
