The Best Snorkeling EVER!!!

We slept soundly anchored at Bora Bora and woke early to get going on our second day in scenic Bora Bora.  We had two excursions scheduled, so we had a quick breakfast and off we went to tender into town for our first excursion - Shark and Stingray Snorkel.

Our Catamaran awaits.

Our crew took our catamaran far out into the lagoon while we enjoyed the entertainment of Polynesian music.

Our musical crew...and you can see the Captain is a women.

Once anchored we jumped in and enjoyed the best snorkeling we have ever experienced.  It was like snorkeling in an aquarium.  We were in a coral garden with many beautiful fish swimming around.  The water was warm and clear and Karen's snorkel gear worked perfectly so she could enjoy floating over the garden and seeing all the fish without any problems.

We've never seen ocean (lagoon) water this clear - this is 15 ft. deep.

There were beautiful yellow, white, and black fish.  Cute little black and white stripped fish.  Large clams embedded in the coral with turquoise and blue edged shells.  Electric blue fish.  Weird shaped fish with long noses, etc.  The depth was between 15-25 ft and it was so clear, you thought you could touch the bottom. Anyway, it was the best snorkeling ever and we hated to get out, but we had to move on to find the sharks and stingrays.

Yea, we look good for a couple of 72 year olds!

We quickly found the right spot and jumped into the clear warm water.  This time we could stand on the bottom while the sharks and stingrays swam around us.  There were more beautiful fish to enjoy and Karen spotted an octopus who swam around and then snuck into a hole in the rocks.

Karen on the left nearly surrounded by reef sharks - so cool.

Beautiful views everywhere we look.

After we came back to port we had a quick 5 minutes to get to our next excursion.  Just enough time for Karen to change her clothes and for Bill to run and get a fantastic Polynesian hot dog.  We joined our fellow travelers on a colorful bus for a narrated trip around the island.

There is so much beauty all around and we enjoyed the trip with a few stops for picture taking.

We also stopped at MaMa Edna's shop along the circle island road where she demonstrated how she makes colorful saroungs.

She showed us the dyeing process and several ways to tie them around us.  Karen made some purchases and then we were off again.

Karen and one of MaMa's salesmen.

Our last stop was Bloody Marys - a bar and restaurant reminiscent of the character in South Pacific.  Some of the movie was filmed here in Bora Bora.

We had a Pina Colata (not a bloody Mary) and enjoyed the ambiance of a South Pacific restaurant with sand on the floor and palm fronds all around.

Bill purchased a t-shirt and Karen a hat (now Bill get's his backup hat back).

The narrator was great and told us so much about the island, life on Bora Bora, the plant life and what the US Army did here during World War II.

Time to set sail...

...and our ship leaves Bora Bora tonight.
