Hot to Cold
This morning at 6:30 am we left beautiful Salzburg and headed back to the Munich Airport. Salzburg was enjoyable but it's time to head to Norway. Hot or cold, we've been having a great time seeing Germany, the Alps and Salzburg. The hills and scenery to the airport continues to remind us of the Sound of Music.
We got to the airport in plenty of time to get a bite to eat and board our flight to Amsterdam. Once in Amsterdam we were able to easily make our connecting flight to Bergen, Norway. While waiting for our flight we started talking with the Cruise Director for our ship who was just arriving to start her 4 month season on the Viking Sea. It was nice to hear about the ship and her experiences.
The Bergen Airport was a very crowded and busy airport and that was especially true of the small baggage claim area. Ric and Vicki had checked 2 bags through to Bergen (can you see where this is going?). We waited quite a while for their bags to come in. Ric retrieved one of them but the other was nowhere to be found. It became apparent that many other passengers were in the same boat. KLM seemed to have left a bunch of baggage in Amsterdam. After filing a claim and getting assurances that their missing bag will show up tonight, we headed to our hotel.
The city is beautiful with many houses along the water and on the hillsides. It was raining on and off and Bill asked our driver if it's normally like this in summer. She said no, summer has not come yet, but last year it was on a Wednesday! Apparently it rains alot. The story here goes that when God made Bergen he thought it was so beautiful that He decided to wash it everyday.
Our hotel is in the center of town. After checking in we found out that they offer a free buffet so since the price was right, we made that our dinner. The food was fresh and delicious- carrot soup, fresh bread, salad bar, and dessert.
After dinner Bill and Karen went for a short walk along the waterfront and got caught while God was washing Bergen.
We'll have more pictures tomorrow as this was a travel day and it's night, night time.
