Eating our way to Salsburg
It was tough leaving beautiful Hallstatt, but off to Salzburg we went. The drive through the mountains with green grass everywhere, sometimes all the way up several thousand feet on the mountain sides, beautiful trees, and Bavarian houses dotting the landscape reminds us of the "Sound of Music" - the hills were alive with fantastic vistas everywhere.
Our first stop was the historic town of Bad Ischl to pay homage to Carla, Karen's sister who is the trips pastry queen (wished her and Mike were with us). Bad Ischl was once the summer residence of the Habsburgs and is known for it's fine cafes dating back to Kaiser. According to writeups, a must visit is Cafe Zauner that "still makes some of the best pastries in the world", situated along the Traun river. We stopped because if Carla was with us, this would have been a must!
After our pastry stop, Vicki discovered a place to eat lunch near Fuschi on our Audi's electronic GPS. So we decided to wing it and hope for the best. Off we went down a narrow tree lined road concerned what type lunch stop this would be and bam, a mile down this nearly 1-lane road we entered a beautiful gate and there it was in front of us, a spectular resort on a lake. After valet parking, we entered a 5-Star hotel, the Schloss Fuschi, A Luxury Collection hotel. What a find! It was georgeous as we were seated on the terrace overlooking Lake Fuschlsee.
After a 1st class lunch, we arrived in Salzburg where we our staying 2-nights. Our hotel, the Goldener Hirsch is also part of the Marriott Luxury Collection. Built in 1407, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With Bill's millions of points with Marriott, both rooms were automatically upgraded to very large rooms. It turned out to be a very hot day in Salzburg, so we are experencing the same heat as our California friends.
For dinner, we attended the Mozart Dinner Concert consisting of a 3-Course Dinner and concert at Stiftskeller St. Peter's Restaurant in the Baroque Hall. The restaurant is located in the monastery walls of St. Peter's Abbey and dates back to 803 AD making it the oldest restaurant in central Europe.

Thanks for thinking of me when you made the pastry stop. I'm consoling myself with a few tasty morsels from Savour Bakery, which Bob discovered yesterday right here in MV. We're enjoying the blog, especially the photos; keep up the good work!
