The Boy who Spits Water

We woke up this morning cruising into port in Kobletz.  It was a nice sunny day as we approached our destination.  Kobletz is a lovely town at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers.  It has a center old town but since 87% of the town was bombed in WW II, most of the buildings are rebuilt.

After breakfast we gathered for a walking tour of the town.  We saw lovely buildings, cute shops, lots of restaurants and many monuments and fountains.  It seems the citizens of Kobletz have a great sense of humor so that in addition to the usual types of monuments dedicated to the past heros, they also have whimsical statues of some non hero types of its citizens.

Like the poor peppermint lady who sold peppermints to buy food for herself and her animals.  Also the fountain of the little boy who spits water every 2 minutes.  He represents some of the rascals who were born after WW II - products of the french soldiers and the ladies of Koblentz.

If we could post pictures you could see some of these great statues.  Oh well, still trying to understand why we are blocked.  We then wandered through some great gardens.  The tulips are at their peak since they had a long winter.

We returned to the ship just before lunch since it was starting to rain. After spending some time in our room relaxing, it was time to eat again.  It was a good thing we ate on board because the chef made something special for Karen.  She is getting him trained!  He is really great and is working hard to make special things for people on special diets.

After lunch and a good rain, we went back out and broused the shops.  We found the chocolate shop!  Then we decided to walk along the flat wide prominade along both rivers just as the sun re-appeared.  After a good walk about, we decided to ride the bikes that are available to the guests of the ship.  Riding the bikes was great and allowed us time to cover more ground and see much more than if we were walking. We passed beautiful homes, gardens and people out enjoying the sun.

Each night before dinner we have musical entertainment in the lounge. Tonight's was extremely good as the woman who sang had an incredible range from songs like the Blue Danube to opera.

We are having a good time and hope somewhere along the way we find out why we cannot insert pictures...and we have some nice ones...and when fixed, we'll update earlier blogs.

  1. Sounds very relaxing as you cruise along the rivers. Your descriptions are great, even without photos. Thanks for taking the time to share your adventures with your friends.
