Alligators, Alligators and more.

Today it was lots and lots of gators and more. But first we're starting to get the hang of posting photos.  Here's Austin having breakfast in first class yesterday! Yum, yum!

So now that Bill has some semblence of being able to put pictures in, we will move on to todays adventures.  We started off with breakfast at Starbucks - very original.  We didn't want to waste time in a resturant  because we had a lot to do.  After breakfast we drove to the Royal Palms Visitor Center in Everglades National Park.  They have a well known trail that we wanted to take because of the opportunity to see wildlife and we were not disappointed.  There were vultures and other birds unique to us California and Arizona people. They were all beautiful but the main attraction was the alligators.

There were a lot of them in all sizes and Austin took the opportunity to touch one just before the ranger came along and said 'don't touch the alligators'.

After that great experience we stopped for lunch at Burger King - I know - nothing special but it served the purpose.  We had to drive around to the north side of the park to meet up with our airboat driver, Capt. Jim.  It was a 1.5 hour private ride that was really about 2 hours- just the 3 of us.  So great to have the driver to ourselves.  Before we knew it we were speeding along the grass rivers and canals.  Austin loved the speed and it was the ultimate Everglades experience.

It was so great to see beautiful graceful birds take flight as we drove along where they were resting.  Our driver slowed down as we cruised along places where he knew alligators could be seen.

We saw many alligators and some were really large.  One gator was curious about our boat and came up close and then decided to splash us and turn around.  It startled me and I screamed which Austin enjoyed a lot.  A little later we came across another large one who was not happy to see us so he growled at us.  He sounded just like a mad dog.  Austin got to ride up top with the driver which he really enjoyed when we were speeding back to our car.  Our driver was the real deal who was licensed to kill snakes and could wrestle the gators.  He also worked for the park service and helped them out a lot.  We really enjoyed him.

Finally for dinner Austin didn't want to go out so Bill picked up pizza and we redeemed outselves by going to a little mom and pop place that was very good.  We might have to go back another night and acually eat there.

Stay tuned for tomorrow's edition and a good night to all.
