Ice Cream at the Sagrada

We departed LAX on Sept 25th and arrived in Barcelona last night (Sept 26) around 6pm. As some of you know, Ric and Vicki Green had planned to go on this trip with us but due to some medical issues they had to cancel after nearly a year of planning. Sunday night we decided the four of us would do dinner at Treaver's on the Track in San Juan Capistrano.

Kelly's & Green's

Dinner last night was at El Glop Braseria after our long overnight flight in comfortable, lay flat seats in Business Class.

We had breakfast today at Zenith Brunch Cafe, a short walk from Hotel Catalonia Passeig de Garcia.
Food was plenty and great way to start our day.

In the afternoon we enjoyed a guided tour of the world-famous Basilica Sagrada Familia, designed by Antonio Gaudi in 1852. Construction began in 1882 and is not yet complete. Gaudí devoted the remainder of his life to the project, and he is buried in the church's crypt. At the time of his death in 1926, less than a quarter of the project was complete. If you've never been here, suggest you go online and read about it. It is the largest unfinished Catholic church in the world. They expect it to be finished in 10-years. Interesting fact: when the builders looked at some of the designs, they told him it couldn't be done. He said, "no problem in a 100-years". He knew construction would take more than 100-yrs as it is being built with donations.

The final center spire with a large cross on top will be 564 feet high.

View from the opposite side

Notice the stories of the birth of Jesus all around the facade.

Ready for our tour.

The interior is unbelievable!

How about that staircase?

Lots of stained class.

We visited the Sagrada Familia 15-years ago and we could look in, but it was mostly scaffolding.

On our way back to the hotel for a little afternoon relaxation and siesta, we stopped at Ben & Jerry's for ice cream.

Dinner tonight was at La Patsa Lab Italian Restaurant where the pasta is homemade.

The owner came from Southern Italy and always had a passion for gastronomy, a hobby past down from his grandparents. Our dishes were great, and I had gelato and Karen had vegan panna cotta for dessert.
