2023 Mediterranean Cruise

On Monday, September 25th we will be flying from LAX to Barcelona, Spain where we will spend 3-nights before boarding our cruise ship in Tarragona, Spain (1 3/4hrs drive from Barcelona). We board our Oceania Cruise Ship on Friday, September 29th for our 12-day cruise as shown. At the end of the cruise, we will spend 5-nights in Venice before flying home on Oct 16th. Mike and Carla (Karen's sister) will be joining us on this adventure. Because it's been a few years since I did the blog, this is my test blog. The plan is to post often, time allowing.

Unplanned side trip.

Last night we decided to do a 'unplanned side trip', so we studied our AAA France guide book. After some research, we called Hertz and reserved a car. After breakfast it was a short 15-min walk to the agency and in no time, off we went exploring in our little rental. Our near new Fiat 500 for the day. Karen read about this medieval Chàteau about 15-miles from Colmar along the Alsace Wine Route. The drive up to the castle (it's at 2, 500-ft) was very nice through grape vine covered hillsides leading into the forest. As we got close to the castle, there were cars parked along the narrow road for miles. Bill decided we'd go all the way up and see if we might be able to park closer - after all, some peps might be leaving. He was right, and we only had a short walk. Rain - Go Away!

On the road today driving from the west coast of Scotland to the east coast this morning - about a 3 1/2 hr drive. It was a beautiful sunny day to start, but like the U.S. coasts, it rains more on the eastern coast than in the west.  It started raining within an hour of leaving Glengarry Castle Hotel and has not stopped yet. Along the way we made a rest stop at a very exclusive shopping area, House of Bruar and enjoyed strolling around. Bill is really getting the hang of driving on the other side of the road, even in the rain. Because this was a travel day with rain, we didn't take any pictures (well, maybe 2 for fun). So we're inserting a lovely picture of one of our neightbors at Glengarry Castle Hotel saying goodbye. “The Most Beautiful Spring Garden in the World”

Today was a gorgeous, sunny, chilly day. This was our last adventure on this cruise and our last tour where everyone got to attend the annual tulip festival at Keukenhof Gardens - “The Most Beautiful Spring Garden in the World” . The gardens cover over 100-acres and are covered in spectacular tulips everywhere you look. Nearly 1-million visitors a year attend this event and today was not the exception. We arrived from our ship at 9:15am – like arriving at Disneyland when they first open on the weekend – and boy were we grateful to beat the noon time crowds! It was hard to make much progress walking around because we were lured into stopping every few steps to take a picture.   It was so beautiful.   There were millions of tulips of every variety and color, so hopefully you won’t get bored looking at tulip pictures.     Between the 3 couples, we probably took over 100 pictures and sorry you can’t smell them.
