The Gigantic Hot Tub

This morning we slept in – I know that this seems like a rigorous adventure, and we need a lot of sleep, but we did need to catch up with the jet lag.  After a nice breakfast in the Explorer Lounge, we walked all over the ship – after all we need to burn off the calories.

We stopped our walk long enough to play 9 holes of putting.  Karen beat Bill by a couple of stokes.  It was a nice sunny, but still cold day but we are happy there is only an occasional bit of rain.

This afternoon we had an excursion to the Blue Lagoon.  A 94,000 square foot gigantic hot tub lagoon filled with hot geothermal water that comes up from about a mile beneath the earth’s surface.  We really enjoyed the soothing water and warm temperatures.

Included in our tour was a silica facial mask that we spread over our face and upper body.  The water and silica are supposed to be beneficial to our skin.  We now look 10 years younger.

 1 of 5 courses.

We returned to the ship to the mandatory safety instructions and then another excellent dinner.  Tonight, we were eating at the Chef’s Table which featured a five course Chinese meal with wine parings for each course.

As we began our meal, the ship slowly moved out of the Reykjavik port to start our cruise.

We enjoyed our conversation with the couple at the next table through dinner and found out that they also enjoy mission trips with their church.  We were not sure we would enjoy the Chinese dinner, but it turned out to be very good.

Our Viking Mars Ocean ship is brand new. It launched in May 2022, and is the seventh ship in Vikings near identical fleet of Ocean vessels.
