"Island of Maybe", part 2

After enjoying the museum and church, our next stop was at the Kollafjerour Church, an old Faroese church which is still in use today having services every Sunday.

The exterior, black-tarred wood framed building and turf roof added to the charm of this lovely church.

The wood interior was beautiful with an altar and uniquely designed railings with symbols like the tree of life.

Hanging above us was a votive ship, sometimes called church ship given as gifts by seaman.

Our guide also sang a Farosese hymn for us in the church in his native language.

We continued our trip around the grassy hills which took us in and out of the fog, which we learned is a common sight on the island.

At this viewpoint of several islands, all we could see in the fog was this sheep.

After lunch on board, time for our afternoon tour. The fog was still in Torshavn and now it just started raining. But off we went and in 15-min we left the rain and fog. Now it was a beautiful sunny day - and that's why they call it the "Island of Maybe".

Another small fishing village

Quaint village and rest stop.

Another village along the shores of the fjord with a beach.

And at the next viewpoint, this horse enjoying the grass.

Looking down on a small village before heading into the fog.

Salmon farms and village as seen from our bus before ending back at Torshavn and our ship.

Once back on board, it was time for the afternoon tea. We joined a couple who are from just south of Calgary, Canada and enjoyed some conversation.

So many deserts. This one looks like a duck!

After tea back to our room to relax for a couple hours, read emails, start the blog, etc. before dinner.

As we watched us leave port, one last look at the harbor as we say good-bye to the Faroe Islands.

Since we had such a busy day, we decided to eat dinner for the first time at the World Cafe, a excellent buffet with more food that you could ever eat from steak to fish, soup to salads and deserts, did we say deserts? We ate we Bob and Sandy from Port Townsend, Washington. They were a delightful couple to spend time with enjoying a meal and conversation.

After dinner it was time for a show. Earlier in the cruise we enjoyed this piano player who was and is fantastic. He plays everything and is a concert pianist - one of the best. First night he played rock and roll, 50's and 60's music and what a range of classics. Tonight it was a variety of Bach, Liberace, and even several of Disney play tunes to include Beauty and the Beast and Toy Story. Listening for an hour was so incredible we had to attend.

We had a wonderful, full day which only left an hour or so to prepare and post a blog. This island was beautiful, lush green and we loved it. Wished we could have been here 2-days!

We hope you know we enjoy doing the blog for everyone's benefit and as a record for us as well, but sometime there's just not enough time for everything therefore, this is part #2 from Wednesday, August 25th.
