'Rockin n Rollin'
We were ‘Rockin n Rollin’ all night long and that’s not because of great entertainment onboard. It seems the North Atlantic was upset Ric and Vicki could not be with us. Instead, it was Mr. Toads wild ride and he decided not to stop throwing us around.
At times all you could see were splashes from the waves higher than a teacup up to and on our veranda. After a sleepless night, we stumbled into breakfast (literally) and watched the waves and whitecaps while we were eating. Passengers and crew looked like a drunken sailor walking about.
Before stumbling to the dining room for breakfast, the captain came on the ships loudspeaker and said he was sorry the sea was not so cooperative and in fact, he and his crew decided we could not stop today at our planned port, the quaint fishing village of Ísafjörður, founded in the 9th century. Instead, we’d have a sea day as we continued to our next port, Akureyri, Iceland. The weather was so bad near Isafjordur, the captain said there would probably be some snow flurries (currently 40°with 28-38 mph gusts). He went on to say, he expected the sea and weather to be much better tomorrow, and the sea should calm down and we’d be able to enjoy that port.
As we wrote this, it was 2:00 pm on Saturday and the sea has calmed a little but there is still a lot of ‘Rockin’ goin on.
Because we had little sleep last night due to the upset sea and the creaking and groaning going on, we took our first shipboard nap hoping we could catch up a little. Bill is a light sleeper and the creaking kept him from napping very long, but Karen was out like a light!
After lunch it was jacuzzi time in the large hot tub and jacuzzi in the sauna. Very relaxing. In this large hot tub, the water was like being in the ocean as the ship listed/rocked side-to-side. It was a ball for Bill but to much for Karen.
It’s now 8 pm and still very overcast and rainy with limited visibility. And the sea, it's still pretty choppy and hoping it calms down later tonight.
Another wonderful dinner before heading to tonight's entertainment. We're hoping tomorrow we have some more pictures to share.
