Golf and Malasadas
This blog will cover Thursday and Friday since we just kind of got lazy about blogging.
On Thursday morning the guys met up with a friend of Mike's at Puakea Golf Course for 18-holes.
After the girls dropped the guys off at the course, they started searching for the Kauai Malasada booth that Carla found on the internet. In case you don't know what Malasadas are - they are Portugese donuts, in reality they are fried dough balls in sugar. Anyway, they were warm and yummy. Then we found the local ABC store for some souveniers that Carla wanted and then visited the Kauai quilt shop and a discount fabric store where Denise found some beautiful white on white Hawaiian fabrics.
The rest of the afternoon the girls spent lounging around the beautiful hotel pool while waiting for the guys to get back from the golf course. The pool is beautiful, warm and overlooks the beach. The guys joined us at the pool for awhile after they returned. After getting cleaned up we drove into Lihue and enjoyed a nice Italian dinner.
Friday was the day we planned to go to Princeville on the north side of the Island, so we set out in the morning with our first stop being the malasada stand so the guys could enjoy the warm sugary treats. After our morning treat, our next stop was the famous 'fantasy island' falls. The real name is Wailua Falls.
We continued on with our drive and started to get hungry for lunch. Carla does research on food trucks and found one in Hanalei that specialized in gourmet varieties of grilled cheese sandwiches. Those sandwiches didn't last very long.
With full tummies we continued our drive through some of the most beautiful scenery anywhere. We stopped at a beautiful beach and a cave. It was a popular spot and georgeous.
On the way back we stopped for shave ice since no visit to Hawaii is complete without shave ice. Our last stop was a small Hawaiian Church. We were disappointed it was closed, but enjoyed looking at the beautiful stained glass windows.
Dinner tonight (Friday) was fajitas made here at the timeshare. The guys barbequed chicken which made it extra tasty. Saturday will be pool, beach and hang out day.
