Hilton Head Here We Come!

On Sunday, March 8th, we'll arrive Hilton Head, SC. This has become a yearly trek with long time friends Randy & Ellie Edwards and Larry & Martha Armitstead. Our first stop is Marriott's Surfwatch Beach Resort where we have a 3-bdrm unit.

Food, Food and - Food and a Show!

Today was definately a food day. We started with our free breakfast in the concierge lounge.  All six of us had a great breakfast and then off we went to see Copenhagen.   First, we started with the famous Copenhagen Kanal cruise (their way of spelling canal). The weather was fantastic as was our tour. The girls took a taxi from the Marriott while the guys walked. Due to construction, the guys walked much further than planned due to sidewalk closures. But, after a couple route changes, the guys made it in time for the 10:30 cruise (about 10-min longer than expected). On our tour, we saw the black diamond, the little mermaid, and many lovely danish buildings and ships, some of which are homes. Following the tour, we found an out of the way, neighborhood take away shop that had a multitude of delicious and different salads.  Then we sat on a park bench enjoying the food, the weather and each others company. Pinch Me, I must be Dreaming!

As mentioned yesterday,  "the sun will come out tomorrow,  tomorrow"...and it did!  In fact, today was the warmest day since we arrived, reaching 61 degrees. As promised,  we are adding a couple more pictures from the Chateau.  The view from our room is fantastic,  waking to birds singing, enjoying the spring day.  We are surrounded by beautiful grounds (300 acres) that includes the garden, lakes and an island, ancient trees, flowers, etc. Breakfast in the dining room was fantastic and Count Reggie, yes he is a Count and told us more Chateau stories. The Chateau was built in 1795 by his grandparents and is a registered historical monument and is still a family home.  It even includes a ghost of his grandmother.  As you see by a few photos, this is a wonderful place to stay and the Count is a great host. Vaporetto Fiasco

Well, so much for the plans! After another wonderful breakfast, we got on the Vaporetto heading to the island of Murano followed by a trip to Burano. That meant we would take the Vaporetto from our hotel location across the Grand Canal to the next stop to reach the other side. From there, we walked 15-minute across Venice to another Vaporetto.   That Vaporetto then took us to the first island we'd visit today: Murano, as in Murano Glass. It took about 30-min to reach the island. For those of you who are not familiar with Venice, the Vaporetto is a boat that runs a route just like a bus in a city - only it is on water. There are lots of them with many routes and stops and you have to know what you are doing to not make any mistakes.  More about that later. After arriving Murano, we walked around enjoying the island. As we were walking, we ducked into this church for a rest and to see its interior.
