More Gelato!!!

We have had beautiful days so far on this trip and today was no exception.  We arrived just off the Amalfi Coast and enjoyed a spectacular view from our cabin.

View from our veranda this morning.

Amalfi is on the coast of Salerno, Italy which was an important trading power in the Med between 839 and 1200. Today it’s a popular tourist destination. From the ship we took tender to shore. The sea was pretty choppy, so we bounced around a lot before we docked at the pier in Amalfi.

The Tender with precious cargo.

Off the tender we went

Carla quickly figured out how to get tickets for the ferry to Positano and then Karen lead the way through the crowds to get the group on the boat.  The ride was very enjoyable and soon we were disembarking in Positano.  We had all been here once before and wanted to come back.

We started to make our way through the crowds (where did all these people come from?) and along the passageways to enjoy Positano.  The little city is full of shops of many kinds but in particular they have a lot of ceramic shops.  Since the city is built on the side of the mountain, we walked up hill for a while.

At one point we came across a lovely church and wondered inside to sit and rest a while.  It was unique as it had white walls which was a nice change from some other churches we have seen.

We continued our stroll along the crowded passageways while wondering in and out of shops.

We found a sandwich shop and were able to get a great vegetable sandwich, which Bill and Karen shared and Carla and Mike shared a cannoli sitting outside on the steps.  After a little more walking (now going downhill) we made our way back to the ferry to go back to Amalfi.

Downhill soon ladies!

We found Amalfi to be just as crowded as Positano, but we enjoyed all the narrow streets and stairs with pretty much the same kind of shops as we experienced in Positano.

Minutes before the crowd showed up.

We (Karen) made a few purchases along the way.

Then Bill spotted a great little gelato shop on the main passageway and got his favorite - Stracciatella.

And Karen got vegan strawberry.

We made our way through the crowds.

As we wondered further on, we came across a really beautiful church, but it had 'a lot' of stairs up to the entrance and we were not up for climbing all of them, so we enjoyed the beauty of the facade as well as the bell tower.

Since we pretty much had seen most of the town along the edge of the sea we walked back to the tender.

Good-by Amalfi

Back onboard the Marina, Bill & Karen had afternoon tea and then played a quick game of golf on the 18-hole putting golf course (we played 9 this afternoon).

Late afternoon tea.

We were surprised to find out that tomorrow is not a sea day, which we were mistakenly expecting, so we have another port to enjoy more adventures.
