The Ullikana Inn

This morning we woke up in our beautiful yellow room with Clyde sitting on the settee.  Breakfast was in the dining room with several couples.  We enjoyed good conversations and Bill had cereral, pumpkin muffins, bacon, pumpkin pancakes with homemade apple cinnamon syrup, and fruit.  Karen had a special breakfast just for her.  We then set out on our journey to Bar Harbor with sunny sky's and a little chill in the air.

We found our way to the Portland Head Lighthouse.  The rocks and ocean around it were dramatic.

There was an interesting museum attahedc where we learned about lighthouses and this one in particular.  There are 65 historic lighthouses along the Maine coast and all are run by the Coast Guard.  This lighthouse was built on 1791 with a $750 grant from the federal government.  It has been modified several times and has worked all that time with the exception of a few times when it was turned off during wars to prevent the enemy from finding the coast.

We continued our way north at a leisurely pace when out of the blue Karen said, "Oh no"!  Bill wondered what was the matter and found out that she just realized that we were going into Canada on Sunday and we didn't have our passports with us.  Yikes!  After determining that we had to have them, we called our neighbor, Rogene, to see if she could get them and FedEx them to us.  We gave her instructions on where in our house they were and she went on the search.  A while later we got a call from Rogene as she had found Karen's passport but not Bill's.  Bill got on the phone with her and guided her through several spots in his office where it might be, but no luck.  Then Bill thought he might have it with him, so he started looking through his suitcase.  A few minutes later Karen held up his tablet case and he remembered, that's where he keeps it. Now Bill can get into Canada but Karen can't, so we sent Rogene over to FedEx to send it to Bar Harbor. We are so blessed to have such a wonderful neighbor who always watches over our house when we're gone and comes thru in a pinch.

Once that problem was solved, we motored on to Camden, Maine for lunch.  As you can see, we had a beautiful view to enjoy while eating our lunch.

We browsed around town a little and then finished our drive to Bar Harbor where we'll stay for 2-nights.

We are finally starting to see more color but still not a lot.  We're sure we will have some great color pictures for you when we get into Vermont next week.

We checked into the Ullikana Inn B&B (circa 1885) in Bar Harbor and relaxed over appetizers and conversation.  We walked into town to McKays for dinner and then broused the lively town scene before heading back to our room (more Inn pictures tomorrow).

Tomorrow we plan to see more of this beautiful island and Acacia National Park with some more good weather - we hope.
