Our Wandering Cruise Ship
This morning, we walked about a half a mile from the
hotel to have breakfast at Pancake Amsterdam on the Rhine River. This is a
well-known place for breakfast with authentic Dutch pancakes. Of course, a
picture of the 3-Armenian ladies was needed.
We had different pancake flavors: Bill had banana with blue berries, Karen and Vicki had apple cinnamon raisin, Ric had apple bacon, Paul had ham & cheese, and Beverly had apple cheese and they were all unique and tasty.
We checked out of our hotel at noon and met Tony, our taxi driver who took us to our Viking cruise ship – or longboat as they are called. We reached the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam where Bill was told by our travel agent to meet our Viking ship. Before we all piled out of the van with our stacks of luggage, Bill walked ahead and found a Viking agent who told him the port had changed (explained later). So off we went and found our ship 1 ½ miles in the opposite direction we started.
As soon as we boarded it was time for lunch. Meanwhile the Viking crew took all our luggage to our rooms. After lunch and unpacking, we walked around acquainting ourselves with the ship, the Viking Sigrun, although we’ve done a previous river cruise on one of her sister ships in the past.
Having to search for the ship’s new port only let us get acquainted with the whims of the river. At the evening briefing we found out that we would be departing this evening for Enkhuizen instead of spending the night in Amsterdam as scheduled. Why we ask? Because there are too many ships in Amsterdam, so the port authorities asked our ship to move out. This is the 2nd move, the 1st being the port pickup location in Amsterdam. Now we spent an extra night in Enkhuizen instead. This means that we will be taking buses in the morning back to Amsterdam so we can do the tours that we had planned in Amsterdam.
Time for dinner and like every meal on Viking, it was
great. So much food and fun conversations.
Before you know it was 9:30 pm (it does not get dark until 9:30 here). Before turning in, the Kellys took a short stroll around the top of the ship on the walking path and then it was lights out at 11 pm.
