Zion National Park

After spending a week in Park City with friends, we stayed at the Zion National Park Lodge for 2-nights. We choose to not do a nightly blog but instead, a photo blog like we did for PC.

We checked in at 4 pm, then off we went on our first trek to Emerald Pools, an easy hike taking us about 1 1/2 hr round trip.

The park is beautiful and the weather was perfect. It's amazing to look up at the sheer rock mountain sides that reach an elevation of over 2,000 feet above you. Awe inspiring!

We loved having dinner on the 2nd floor overlooking the grassy area in front of the lodge as the deer enjoyed an evening of fresh greens as well.

On our 2nd day, we spent all day site seeing along Zion Canyon Scenic Drive, stopping often to hike.

High up on the rocky mountain, we saw a interesting formation, so we decided to go for it with a couple water breaks along the way.

We enjoyed the destination and it gave us a good cardio workout!

While driving back towards the lodge, Karen spotted a mountain goat and babies in the bushes alongside the road about 50-yards in. After quick back-up and park job, I jumped out began my trek to get a picture. As soon as they spotted me, off they went up, up and up some rocky ledges and around more bushes. I tried to stay quiet but each time I saw them, they saw me. So up some more. After several minutes of climbing higher and higher, I got the National Geographic shot of the year. It was worth the trek! And now I had to get back down...which is a bit harder than going up.

Back at the Lodge, Karen rewarded Bill with an ice cream bar after such a remarkable picture.

At 5:30 pm we booked ourselves on the park guided tour of the canyon not open to personal vehicles. It was a pleasant night slowly cruising along in the open air shuttle with a few stops along the way.

Notice the climber in blue below. We also saw another climber who was up over 1,000 ft settling in for the night.

Zion was beautiful, the weather was perfect, and we had a wonderful time enjoying God's creation.
