Hotlanta

Image
This morning, after saying sad good bye to the Armitstead's as they headed back to Jackson, MS. we went for our last walk on the beach with the Edward's. The weather was once again fantastic and we hated to leave one of our favorite places - Hilton Head, SC. After breakfast at the condo, we headed to Atlanta arriving late afternoon where it was 81 degrees, hence Hotlanta.  After checking into our 2-bdrm TowneSuites unit, we decided to visit Stone Mountain Park. The park is beautiful and the weather at 5pm was spectacular. Tomorrow we fly home, therefore this is our last Hilton Head adventure post.  Join us again for our next adventure to Kauai, Hawaii on April 19th.

Our Last Day/Night in Hilton Head

Image
After a late night, we all slept in till after 8 am this morning. We were up first and since the rain had stopped and the skies were clearing, we took an 1-hr beach walk. The beaches here are very wide and the tide had just receded so it's hard pack and perfect for walking or bike riding. After breakfast we went antiquing and did a couple last minute errands. Back at the condo we finished up eating most of the food left over for lunch as we head to Atlanta in the morning. In the afternoon we went to see McFarland at the local theater.  We highly recommend this show but bring kleenex. A great story and message, and a true story. We all loved it, the $6.50 cost and leather recliner chairs - really ccomfortable. After the show we had dinner at Fat Baby's, a local pizza place. Tripadvisor rated this place 4 1/2 Stares but we all agree, 2 Stars is more like it.

Party Time

Today was Martha's birthday so it started with surprise decorations when she got up. After some gift opening we all went to Panera Bread for breakfast because she loves their oatmeal. Happy Birthday Martha and many more. Because the rain started today, the girls headed to Michaels to get some knitting goodies for a day of creating gifts while the guys vegged out watching golf. The rain was light unlike the bad weather the rest of the Atlantic Coast has been seeing, but it meant we'd stay indoors except for a little shopping and dinner. For dinner we went to one of Martha's favorite places - Carrabba's - and enjoyed an Italian dinner. When the waiter came to the table, he wondered if something had spilled and was not cleaned earlier because Karen sprinkled confetti on the table for the Birthday girl. After dinner we stopped at Fresh Market and picked up a birthday pie...and it was yummy!

Puzzeled?

Image
Oh darn, the guys had to play another round of golf today.Loved the course even though it has water on 18 holes and gators on 15. Tomorrow will be a day of leisure as the weather may change, but today was 68 degrees, down from 80 yesterday. Yes, puzzeled on what to do. After golf, the guys joined up with girls for lunch then shopping at the Sea Pines Lighthouse and Harbor Town. Tonight the ladies made tortilla soup and it was very tasty. But, before dinner they finished the Hometown puzzle.  Only 1, 000 pieces and each piece was about the size of a dime or smaller. We had another wonderful day with friends and another game of mexican train.

A Tacky Grill

Image
Bill and Karen started the morning off by walking the beach for about an hour. Along the way we saw several dolphins playing close to shore in the surf - pretty cool. We also saw a small stingray that had washed ashore. After breakfast we all headed out to Hunting Island State Park Lighthouse near Beaufort, S.C. This historic lighthouse was built in 1859, destroyed during the civil war and rebuilt in 1875. It was dismantled and moved in 1893 to its current location due to erosion. The beach and forest surrounding the area was lush and beautiful. Bill and Karen decided to hike up the 167 stairs to the top. The inside was cool with lots of history placards and the view was spectacular. For lunch we stopped at Marsh Tacky Grill and Cafe, a small place along the way. It was very beachy and small and the food was great. Next on the agenda was the farmers market in Beaufort - we thought. Although the net said it started this week, it didn't. No problem, lots...

Do Alligators Golf?

Image
Even Alligators love golf. As the guys approaced the tee box today, there he was, enjoying the sun. Shortly after they drove up, an Egret approaced and when he saw the gator, his feathers came up like hair on the back of a dog and in slow motion, the Egret did a slow moon walk backwards. It was pretty funny and the guys could only imagine what he was thinking. While the guys were golfing, the girls went shopping at the outlet mall then had lunch at their favorite place - The Cottage. After lunch we all met up at the condo in the late afternoon. After a short rest, off to dinner to another favorite restaurant known for the best burgers in town...and they were great. Following dinner, we were forced to try the bacon, bourbon char pie. Some liked it, some did not. After dinner we spent some time discussing what we would do tomorrow as a group and when/where we might go on our next adventure.

Who does their taxes on an I-phone?

Image
Another beautiful day in Hilton Head at Marriott's Surfwatch. Last night we enjoyed watching and kidding Randy as he worked on his Federal Taxes using Turbo Tax on his I-Phone! Yes, on his I-Phone. Why? Because somehow, something changed on his tablet and he could not get online. After no success, we played Mexican Train until bed time. This morning the guys played golf at Hilton Head National and had a great time. Before the guys went golfing, Karen headed out for a morning walk along the beach. After she got back, the girls had breakfast here in the condo then off they went shopping and had lunch at Panera Bread. Once they returned, Martha and Karen began work on a Hometown picture puzzle while Ellie did some sketching until the guys returned. Once the guys returned, Randy got on the phone with Cox and they walked him through the fix and now he's back online and all is well. That means he can send and receive emails and work with Turbo Tax on his tablet. ...

The Lagoon

Image
Saturday night dinner with the Edward's in McDonough, GA where we had a fantastic Italian dinner at a small restaurant.  The food was tasty! We arrived Hilton Head today and the weather was better than expected at 68. We will be here all week, staying at Marriott's Surfwatch in a 3-bedroom timeshare with long time friends overlooking the lagoon. This has become a yearly get together and we all love coming Hilton Head. Today was the first time to be with good friends Larry and Martha since last years trip. Guys are looking forward to lots of golf while the girls look forward to catching up and shopping. Of course we're all looking forward to good food, good company and adventures aroung the island. Here Karen, Ellie and Martha are researching where to eat tonight, while the guys watch golf in preparation for a week of golf.
