Ou-La-La Monsieur
After a good night's sleep, off for another walking day tour - and we were blessed with sun today for a good part of the day...yea God!
Our first stop was Paul's fresh bakery for a true French breakfast. Nothing like a pain au chocolat, hot chocolat and juice to get the motor started!
After a 30-min walk, we reached Saint Chapelle Cathedral where we saw massive stained glass windows. It was well worth the time to see so many large glass murals.
After spending time enjoying the Cathedral, we were off to Notre Dame, the medieval church known as the symbol of Paris that started in 1163. The Cathedral is enormous and beautiful inside and out. It also had beautiful stained glass windows plus some mean looking gargoiles.
We should also point out that the walk thru old Paris is wonderful, full of beautiful architecture, small streets and many side walk cafe's. Seeing all the the cafe's and pastries shops made us hungry, so we stopped at another Paul's for lunch.
Our waitress was miss personality and a real cutie. She took excellant care of us and while serving the couple next to us, she dropped an Avion water bottle so Bill, wanting to be a gentleman, reached to keep it from hitting the floor while she caught it between her knees at about the same time. She was wearing a sort skirt and turned towards him, smiled at said "ou-la-la"!
After lunch we walked along the Siene river and back towards our hotel in the Rodeo Drive area of Paris. After a 30-min break at the Park Hyatt, we headed out for the famous Galleries Lafayette department store with a most beautiful glass dome. From the 9th floor deck, we could see for miles in all directions.
Directly across from the outside deck was the orginal home of the Phantom of the Opera, called the Opera de Paris Garnier.
After another full day of walking, the pigs were barking and it was time to eat dinner. After a large lunch Bill had what else - French onion soup while Karen had vegetable soup with a side of cooked spinach. Of course every meal in Paris comes with the best French bread ever...yum, yum!
We certainly enjoyed the benefits of the French drug regulations - or lack of regulations. Karen woke up with a very pink and goopy eye. Deciding to buy some eye drops, we stopped at a pharmacy and were able to purchase some antibiotic drops without a perscription for only 6 euros. Pretty great.
Stay tuned tomorrow for a new adventure.
PS. We understand all the pictures did not show on the blog and hope all 7 pictures on this blog make it.
